A monument to the late Captain James Cook, who discovered Hawaii while searching for the Northwest Passage and is somewhat of a local hero on the islands. Oddly he was killed by the Hawaiians during a relatively minor skirmish and so is remembered with this monument in Kealakekua Bay.
